Although not strictly a foster dog, I really wanted to give you an update on beautiful Moose. Moose was a foster with Linda before Christmas and was adopted by Gill, another foster carer. We've been looking after him while Gill went away on holidays. We can't take a foster at the moment because our fences are in such a terrible condition (all the foster dogs poking their noses next door for a pat!)
I emailed Gill, Moose's owner an update how his 'holiday' is going with us.
Hi Gill,
Hope your holidays are going well. I thought I'd let you know how Moose went on our camping trip, and share a few photos with you. Unfortunately our camera didn't work for most of the trip, so I didn't get any action shots. The times when I tested it Moose was lying down, not so exciting!
Moose loved camping! There was a dog just next to us which was VERY interesting for Moose. Unfortunately she didn't like to play as much as he did, so he had to be on the lead attached to me most of the time.
He's not as much of a swimmer as Dorrie is. Dorrie will swim and swim for hours, whereas Moose just seemed to want to jump in and cool off. Dorrie LOVES to retrieve sticks from the water and gets really worked up when we reach down to grab a stick. Moose wasn't quite sure what was happening and didn't want to swim out as far as Dorrie did, so he just waited for her to come back before chasing her around the water's edge. In the end Moose started to work out what was going on. He would swim out and grab a dead reed in his mouth, but he wouldn't really bring it back. I think that by the time you get back he and Dorrie will be retrieving sticks together!
We've been working on recall, since Moose doesn't recognise my voice very well. He gets so excited when he knows his doing something right, and sprints back towards me. I swear he's only got one speed, and that's FAST! It meant that he was a bit uncoordinated over the rocks, but he wasn't embarrassed by us laughing at him.
We only camped out for one night. It was very wet and muddy and I felt really bad for the dogs. They were sleeping in the car because they were too wet to sleep in the tent with us. They didn't seem to mind overnight but when it was raining during the day we thought we'd just come home. A bit disappointing, but we're glad we found that spot. It's really beautiful in the rainforest and sleeping right by the dam. Dorrie would tear down to the water, swim and come charging back. She's teaching Moose her love for the water! (Not that he needed much encouragement!)

We went to Uriarra yesterday and met up with Linda and Jackson. Moose LOVES Jackson, they're both as boofy and overexcited in their play time. They would stop and stare at each other, then one would play bow and it would be OFF! They would chase each other around and around our picnic area. I think Moose was a bit smarter though, he would run around and get slightly infront of Jackson and then hide under the picnic table. Jackson would then look around in surprise, 'where did he go?' and then Moose would run off in the opposite direction. All so fun!
I think we've well and truely tuckered him out. Both dogs are asleep on the floor now. Just before I went over and sat next to Moose to give him a pat. He looked up at me with his big brown eyes, shuffled closer and put his head on my lap. Oh! It was so sweet!
Moose is welcome back here anytime!
Monica
PS, why is it that dogs love to sleep in CLEAN laundry sheets? As soon as I put them down on the floor, I turned my back to see Moose crawled up in them! Oh well, I'm slowly learning not to do that!
