Dogs Available for Adoption

Our website is updated at least every 48 hours so there is a good chance that the dogs you see are still available, although they could have someone meeting them in the next few days. It is worthwhile filling in an application even if you don't see the Lab of your dreams as we give the people on our waiting lists first priority before putting the Labs on our website. Less than 50% of our dogs make it onto the website.
If you do find the lab of your dreams on our website, please send an application form in as soon as possible as we generally get several applications for each of the dogs we advertise. If we have a selection of great homes for that dog, they will go to the home that is available first. We have limited space and need to make room for other Labs in need.

Simba

photo of Simba
width=

Simba is a pure yellow lab, 7 years of age, who is extremely friendly. He loves being around people and is great company. His owners are no longer able to care for him due to long work hours. They would love to see him go to a nice big place to run around in and a person or family who will love him and care for him as he deserves.

He is good with dogs and cats. He can get excited around young children but has been safely supervised with children as young as 3 years old. He has good basic obedience and responds well to 'sit', 'drop', 'shake' and 'up'. He needs some training to walk well on lead and to reliably return when called. He's in good health with a lot of love to give his lucky new home.

Coco Chanel

photo of Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel is a 24 month old chocolate girl looking for a special home that can cater for her leaky bladder now, with a view to saving up for medical tests and then possible surgery to fix her up in the future. She appears to be suffering from a condition known as ectopic urethra.

Coco Chanel is a really loving and gentle soul that loves nothing better than to jump on the couch with you and just lay on your lap. She is gentle with the 6 month old baby in her current family and has also had contact with kids as young as 3 yrs old, she shows her excitement by jumping around them but not on them.

Coco Chanel loves the water. She is great with other dogs and is very good with the one cat she has regular contact with. She has a basic level of obedience with sit, stay, lie down, come and walking on lead, when there are no distractions, which is a good foundation to build on. She travels well in the car, is not destructive and is housetrained letting you know when she wants to go out.

Bundles of joy!

photo of Bundles of

joy
width=

We'd like to share some more information about these bundles of joy now that they've been with us for a few days. They're Lab cross pups who are a little older than initially thought having most of their adult teeth already. They do need a little more TLC so won't be available until at least the weekend of 30 July. We were glad to find out that the 10-12 month old black Lab girl who came in with them was not their mother :-).

Samuel

Samuel is a five month old golden lab and the biggest of his brothers and sisters. He is well-natured, friendly and smart. As the lead pup he likes to sit back and assess situations before joining in. He is cautious and will run up to greet you with a wagging tail but will draw back if you reach out to pat him unexpectedly . He is quickly learning to understand his world however, and is growing more and more social with people every day. With more love and pats he will be a caring and loyal family dog.

Coal

Coal is a five month old black lab. He is a happy pup who loves trotting around with a toy in his mouth and chasing balls. He is vocal and will groan with happiness and excitement when you arrive home. He will also be the first to bark so he can proudly alert his human friends about something he thinks they should be aware of. Coal can be nervous and jumpy when he doesn't know what to expect, but is growing in confidence and is now realising how much he loves being patted!

Douglas

Douglas is an adorable, sweet natured and inquisitive five month old golden pup. He prefers to be with the humans rather than his brothers and sisters. He will always be close by you, involving himself in everything you're doing or just waiting for a cuddle. He is the smallest of his brothers and sisters but has a very eager appetite and he is always on the lookout for food. He is a placid but playful pup who likes playing with toys when his brothers and sisters aren't hogging them! Douglas would be a fantastic companion dog for anyone with lots of love and hugs to share.

Julia

Like the current PM, Julia is a strong, assertive and independent (golden) girl. She's five months old and is happy to play with toys on her own or sit and watch the others. She will happily rush up to you for pats and will even make sure that she gets the pats if a competition for attention is on. She enjoys sitting quietly on your lap and showing her affection by licking your hand from time to time. Julia has entropion (a turned-in eyelid) on her right eye, requiring minor surgery to correct but she does not let this affect her in anyway. Julia would make a loyal, loving and happy dog for the lucky family that gets her.

Ccelli

Ccelli is a sweet shy little yellow girl who is starting to respond to people. Her love of food is a powerful motivator for her and we're seeing progress everyday. She is playful and submissive with other dogs and especially loves her big foster brother Diesel who always makes our new fosters feel welcome. She is also learning to live with a strange animal that meows! Ccelli has a lighter coloured nose so will need some zinc applied to protect it in sunny conditions.

photo of Bundles of joy

These pups will all be vet worked during the week (this includes desexing, vaccinating, heart worming, all worming and flea treated) before being made available to meet new families . Each of these dogs will be $400 each. If you would like to register your interest, please complete an adoption questionnaire adoption information and questionnaire and we will add you to our waiting list. As usual we already have 3 suitable homes on our waiting list that have asked for dogs just like these, so they will no doubt all find homes quickly and we will have more applications than we do dogs, so please bear with us while we work our way through everyone and respond.

Interested in adopting one of these bundles of joy? Please see our adoption information and questionnaire. For further information email Labrador Rescue.

These bundles of joy are located in Canberra and are available for interstate adoption.

Dray

photo of Dray

Dray is a happy, well-mannered mature bloke. He has had a responsible role in life looking after another dog, but is now ready to relax into active retirement. His foster carers say that he is very easy-care and easy-going. He is perfectly house-trained and gets on well with kids, dogs and cats. Dray is as fit as a fiddle and enjoys a good gallop at the leash-free park, then is happy to join in work around the house and garden before snoozing in front of the telly. Dray has deep soulful eyes that will reassure you of his love - he is one of those dogs that seem to just 'understand'.

Dray is an extremely loving dog and wants to be with you as often as he can. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Dray sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog when you go out. Prince

photo of Prince
width=

I’m a happy boy, happy boy!!!! Prince has to be the happiest boy in the world… He spent the first 24 hours at our place exploring his territory so he knew where everything was and then settled in like he had always lived here. The vet tells us he is almost completely blind and yet he takes everything in his stride with a bounce in his step and a happy smile. He loves the other dogs and happily tries to play with them and follow them around. He has basic obedience and is very well behaved in the house.

Prince is only 10 years old and was surrendered to the pound by his family with glowing references. He adores children and pretty much anyone else that will give him affection. He still has a lot of life left in him but would prefer to meander around rather than race around. He is well behaved on all occasions and will happily fit into any family environment. You can rarely tell he has a vision problem as long as his environment doesn’t change, he navigates his surroundings with ease once he knows where everything is.

Prince is an extremely loving dog and wants to be with you as often as he can. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. He sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog while you are away from home. Prince needs a gentle walk at least once a day as well as having play time with his family. He needs to be included in the family’s daily routine and not left outside on his own. He loves to socialise with other dogs and people.

Prince comes desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm and intestinal worm treated with a ton of love and a gorgeous smile for the right family for $350.

Solomon

*** Solomon has found a lovely new home *** Tall and handsome with a gorgeous personality to match! What more can you ask for??? Solomon was surrendered by his owners because they had to move house and couldn’t take him. At 5 years of age, he has out grown the destructive Labrador stage but is still young and energetic. He has wonderful manners and is great with other dogs and kids. He has his basic training but can still use the occasional reminder when he gets over excited.

Solomon would love to have a play mate or someone who is home more often than not. He just loves company, both human and of the canine variety. In his tests with cats, he completely ignored them, although he did help himself to their food :o)

*** Felix has found a lovely new home *** Felix is a sweet-natured, playful, loving, gold labrador boy who is 14 months old. This handsome fellow is full of energy, loves just about everything and everyone, and enjoys playing with his friends. Felix is good with other dogs and is happy to make new friends. Felix sits on command but he still pulls on the lead and needs some training. He would love to go to dog obedience school as he is keen to please and loves learning new things. He would suit a family with older children or children who are used to bouncy dogs because he does still jump up when he gets excited. Felix is a bit overweight so will need to go on a diet and have lots of exercise.

Utai

photo of Utai
width=

***** On trial with a new family ***** Utai is a wiggly-tailed cuddly boy who needs a family of his very own. He gets on well with all dogs as he is very submissive - he's a lover, not a leader. He is eager to please and should be easy to train, and he already knows 'sit' and likes to high-five. Although he is five he plays like a puppy so will be great fun for older children. Utai is house trained and just wants to be someone's new best mate.

Utai is an extremely loving dog and wants to be with you as often as he can. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Utai sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog when you go out. Diesel

photo of Diesel
width=

***** On hold ***** Nine month old Diesel is just gorgeous. Everyone who meets him falls in love. He is much more human oriented than dog oriented so won't have an issue being an only dog. In fact, I am sure he would prefer not to share his human with other dogs. That said, he loves to play with other dogs, as long as you are there as well. He is fine home alone during the day, when I get home form work, he is asleep on the lounge, even though the other dogs are outside playing. he is a real snuggle pup and likes to be near you, if not touching you most of the time. He is learning fetch and tug of war and thinks they are wonderful games. He is certainly energetic and fun loving. He is slowly learning his basic manners and is VERY food focused. If I didn't know better, I would swear he is starving because he goes manic over food. He likes to snuggle on the lounge of an evening and has been sneaking up to sleep on my bed of a night time. He doesn't seem to settle to sleep of a night unless he is touching me. I think this is just due to his age and being passed around to a few people as a pup. He needs the reassurance that you are there and won't run away, or get food when he isn't watching! He is slowly becoming more confident and will occasionally run off and explore with the other dogs now but he is always back within a few minutes and sooooo excited that you are where he left you.

Does this sound like what you are looking for in a dog? He is very affectionate and will need someone who thinks that is a good thing, not something that needs to be trained out of him.

Diesel is an extremely loving dog and wants to be with you as often as he can. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Diesel sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog when you go out. Danny

photo of Danny
width=

*** Danny has found a lovely new home *** Danny is a sweet natured, seven and a half year old, yellow, male lab. He is slightly underweight so I am currently feeding him up. He was a little timid and defensive on arrival but has now settled in well with my two dogs and two cats and is getting on well with all. He still does not like being crowded in and will avoid that happening. In the week I’ve had him I have not heard him bark at all and he has made no effort to go over or under fences.

Danny’s face looks older than his body or his years. His grey muzzle belies his otherwise very good condition. He is very reluctant to get into cars but once in settles straight away. Danny has no food aggression and accepts tidbits gently and politely. He walks well on lead but does pull slightly. He learns quickly and has mastered “lie down” and “out of the kitchen” as well as using the dog door. Danny would prefer to be with you more than anything else in the world. He will suit as an only dog or with a gentle companion dog.

Danny needs to be walked regularly (once a day) as well as having play time with his family. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Danny needs to be included in your daily routine and not left outside on his own. He loves to socialise with other dogs and people. Danny sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog while you are away from home.

Khune

photo of Khune
width=

*** Khune has found a lovely new home *** Khune is like a big cuddly bear, fluffy with huge paws! He's an energetic, playful, beautifully natured 1 year old black boy who is looking for someone to give him lots of training and physical and mental stimulation. He loves to retrieve, he'll bring back anything you throw for him as well as things you haven't! He's still keen to go on when you've had enough. He also prefers to stop himself by barrelling into you so you have to be quick to dodge and redirect his braking energy.

He loves to be with you whatever you're doing with paws up next to you or on your lap. Khune doesn't realise he's a bit too big to be a lap dog! He pops his paws up on the kitchen bench to help with food preparation or dishwashing, he pops his paws up on the desk to help type when you're working on the computer, he likes to hold the clothes for you as you hang them up on the line, he'll even pop his paws up next to you as you quietly enjoy the view leaning on the deck railings.

He's really playful with other dogs and invites them to play with play bows or teasing nose pokes, and will self handicap for smaller and more timid dogs. He'll race other dogs during retrieving games and play a good natured game of tug o' war to gain posession of the toy. He enjoys a good belly rub and will often drop and roll onto his back in front of you in the hope of inviting a belly rub. Let us know if you believe you can give Khune the kind and loving but firm and active home he needs.

Khune needs to be walked regularly (once a day) as well as having play time with his family. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Khune needs to be included in your daily routine and not left outside on his own. He loves to socialise with other dogs and people. Khune sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog while you are away from home.

Khune comes microchipped, vaccinated, desexed and treated for intestinal worms, heart worm and fleas and with a ton of love and a gorgeous smile for the right family, for a re-homing fee of $400.
