Foster Carers Desperately Needed!!

If you can open your home to one of our rescued labradors please email us now! Find out more

Dogs Available for Adoption

Our website is updated at least every 48 hours so there is a good chance that the dogs you see are still available, although they could have someone meeting them in the next few days. It is worthwhile filling in an application even if you don't see the Lab of your dreams as we give the people on our waiting lists first priority before putting the Labs on our website. Less than 50% of our dogs make it onto the website.
If you do find the lab of your dreams on our website, please send an application form in as soon as possible as we generally get several applications for each of the dogs we advertise. If we have a selection of great homes for that dog, they will go to the home that is available first. We have limited space and need to make room for other Labs in need.

Open Your Hearts - Help Us Help Holly

photo of Holly width=

Gorgeous golden girl Holly is a former rescue of ours, plucked from a terrible existence at just 9 months of age. So young, but already severely traumatised, Holly wouldn’t even come out from under the house she was living at when our rescuer arrived. It was obvious she was being beaten and under extreme stress, but thanks to some quick thinking and a whole lot of diplomacy we were able to get this beautiful yet terrified dog out of a horrible situation.

Safe, but severely distressed, it took months of rehabilitation and care to get Holly to the point where she could even consider going to a new home. Fortunately for her, she found the most amazing owner who fell in love with her and promised her a secure haven and a tonne of happiness.

Slowly overcoming her horrendous start to life, Holly now faces a major new battle. After signs of leg soreness and discomfort, she has just been diagnosed with a ruptured cruiciate ligament and requires intense, expensive surgery and another long haul of rehabilitation.

Holly’s history has left her emotionally scarred and she becomes frantic when confined in any way. The nature of her surgery means she will need to be kept quiet and unable to walk for one month, short walks only the next month, gentle free activity the third month and normal activity after that.

It is a daunting task for any dog owner at the best of times, but Holly’s mum is determined the months and months of round the clock intensive care will be worth it to give this now two year old a pain-free, trauma-free future.

Holly has a heart of gold and a gentle soul that belies her brutal beginning in life. We truly believe she is a girl who deserves a second chance at happiness and we are asking for your help to make this happen.

The surgery she needs costs $1200 and we are calling on our Labrador Rescue friends and supporters to HELP US HELP HOLLY!

Labrador Rescue already relies heavily on the kindness of volunteers and donations simply to be able to do the daily job of rescuing our gorgeous dogs from death row and finding them magical forever homes.

Your support is needed to help Holly get the peace and comfort she so deserves. If you can assist us in any way possible by donating towards the cost of her operation you would be making a world of difference. For details on how to donate please visit our Help Us Save a Lab page.

Thank you in anticipation of any help you can offer. Labrador Rescue thanks you and more importantly HOLLY THANKS YOU!

Rebel

photo of Rebel width=

Rebel is absolutely adorable!!! He has settled in very well with our family and loves being the centre of attention. He will do anything for your affection and loves being cuddled but will also settle for a good old pat!! Rebel has also settled in great with our two labs. They never leave each other's sides, they are either all playing together or just sitting there cuddling. Stuffed toys are his favorite, however he will play with anything as long as he has your attention. As far as we have seen Rebel is not a chewer so this is a quality that we have found to be quite a relief.

He is in good shape with a nice shiny coat. He currently eats 2 cups of dry food at night as he was a bit skinny when he came to us. Once he thickens up a bit we will slowly reduce that! However I think Rebel loves the two cups because he doesn't leave one biscuit! He has already learnt basic training (eg sit, come, shake etc). However he needs some on the lead training because he is quite a 'puller'. Rebel also jumps up a bit when he is excited or welcoming new people but a quick stern "Sit!" and he usually settles pretty quickly.

Rebel would suit any type of family. He needs to be walked regularly (at least once a day) and would benefit from some one on one obedience training, which I'm sure he will excel at because he is a very quick learner.

Rebel needs to be walked regularly (once a day) as well as having play time with his family. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Rebel needs to be included in your daily routine and not left outside on his own. Rebel loves to socialise with other dogs and people. Rebel sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog while you are away from home.

Rebel comes microchipped, vaccinated, desexed and treated for intestinal worms, heart worm and fleas and with a ton of love and a gorgeous smile for the right family, for a re-homing fee of $400.

Boris

photo of Boris width=

Nine month old Boris (formerly known as Blade) has been renamed to better reflect his true, friendly personality. Like his namesake, the German tennis player, he is strong, agile and outgoing. When he first arrived, he had no idea how to play, but now loves all games - with or without balls.

Boris is a Labrador cross, possibly combined with whippet. He is a very sweet and loyal dog who wants to connect individually with each member of the family. When someone new arrives home, he drops whatever he is doing to greet that person, before going about his former business.

He has loved spending time with our kids (13 and 10), but would also suit an individual or couple prepared to develop a close relationship with him. He needs plenty of exercise (a daily walk plus backyard activities) and formal training with his long term family would move him beyond the basic manners we have worked on. He loves doing the right thing and is a very quick learner who aims to please. On morning runs and evening walks, he rarely pulls the lead now.

Boris enjoys extended periods indoors, including lying under the office desk while school work is done, lying next to the couch being patted while watching television and sitting near the front door and watching the world go by. Boris currently has too much energy to be a companion for an older dog, but would certainly enjoy regular contact with other dogs or a home with other dogs of a similar disposition.

Boris comes microchipped, vaccinated, desexed and treated for intestinal worms, heart worm and fleas and with a ton of love and a gorgeous smile for the right family, for a re-homing fee of $400.

Cindy

photo of Mad Max width=

Cindy is a loving, gentle, old girl who is 10 going on 13. She is overweight and is feeling her age with arthritic joints and slightly impaired hearing and vision. She is on a diet and is receiving treatment for arthritis and bad ear infections. Cindy has a bit of difficulty with stairs, one is okay any more and she starts wobbling. She's being fostered with a lady recovering from a stroke so the home is all ramps and a doggy door which is perfect for her. Since receiving treatment and TLC in foster care she is becoming more mobile and is now up to walking 3 times a day around the garden. Cindy sleeps on a mat or in a basket but will not attempt the trampoline bed instead she pulls off the blanket to lay on the floor.

Cindy is fine with everyone and just wants some love and company. She follows as her carers move from room to room. She would do well in a quiet home with seniors both human and canine as she also loves a 13 yo cross breed she is fostered with. We're looking for a home that will dote on Cindy and receive devotion from her in return.

Cindy comes microchipped, vaccinated, treated for intestinal worms and fleas, with a ton of love and a gorgeous smile for the right family.

Brooki

photo of Brooki width=

A description of Brooki from her current owners who have asked Lab Rescue to assist with finding her a new home:

I bought Brooki from a registered breeder 2 years ago. I was looking for a well tempered companion as i have a small child and I absolutely love the breed. I am a vet nurse and come across lots of breeds every day, but have never found a breed quite as nice a lab.

When Brooki was approx 8 weeks old she came to puppy preschool at work with me and just wanted to run and play with all the other puppies. She was a typical puppy in every way, except it was extremely hard to get her to settle and to focus. As she was growing up she continued to develop the most beautiful and gentle nature. She hardly ever barked and rarely dug holes or pulled clothes off the line. The only problem we ever saw with her was her inability to settle when excited and she started to spin and circle things. I tried to work with her myself, but knew something wasn't right, so i contacted an animal behaviourist. He came to my house and we worked with Brooki. He immediately diagnosed her with ADHD and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). When I contacted her breeder regarding this diagnosis they informed me her father circled and spinned, but they didn't think anything of it. The behaviourist reassured me that Brooki has no signs of aggression or anxiety, he said she was a fantastic dog temperament wise and that she was a happy dog.

Brooki has grown up with all ages of children and loves to be in their company. My 4 year old can do anything with her and she will follow him around the backyard all day. I have a cat who Brooki loves (but is a bit too excited for the cat's liking) and she absolutely loves other dogs of all sizes. She is more submissive that dominant, but she would be too much for a dog that isn't very active or doesn't like to play. Brooki is extremely excitable and jumps around, but has never jumped up on any adults or children. My 1yr old nephew can walk around outside with a bikkie in his hand and she won't even try to take it from him!

Brooki would be suited to a home with other active dogs, as she circles and paces alot when left alone, or a family with children to play with. She needs to be stimulated more than we can provide when working etc. She would definitely need to go to a home with a very large backyard or a property as she is so active. She loves water, enjoys the beach and her little pool, but gets a bit hesitant near the river. Brooki's new owner would have to understand her condition and realise that she will never be a "couch potato" and is excited very easily. They would have to be willing to contiue working with her to get her to settle. She travels well and is good in both the backseat of my car and on the back of the ute. When I take her jogging she starts off hard to handle as she is so excited and finds it hard to focus, but once we get going she is good. She will need a firm owner who will spend lots of time with her. She tries so hard to please and is so so loving. She would love a family with both other dogs and children as she is so playful, but would be happy with either as long as she was kept stimulated. It's sad for me because she is such a beautiful girl, but she is unhappy being the only dog here and our yard is just not large enough for a dog with her condition.

As a vet nurse I have ensured Brooki is always in top shape and she is very healthy. She has never had a health problem and is a perfect weight. She is only 25kg so not a very tall or large labby. she is quite petite for her breed. She is up to date with her vaccinations and has had her yearly heartworm injection. She is desexed, microchipped and lifetime registered. I have her pedigree papers also.

Brooki comes with a ton of love and a gorgeous smile for the right family, for the price of $350.

Buddy

photo of Buddy width=

Buddy is a big affectionate sook! He's a sweet nine month old black Labrador cross boy. He's good with other dogs and is living with two in foster care, one larger than him and one smaller. He and the larger dog love to romp around together and he and the smaller dog play gentler rolling around games. He can be a little over excited meeting new dogs at first but this will improve with continued socialisation. He is being fostered with the new little puppy, Mad Max, and has really impressed us with his benevolent paternal attitude towards the youngster. He's incredibly patient when Mad Max clambers all over him! He loves to play with the puppy and will balance this with a small dose of discipline when necessary, all very healthy behaviours. He is fine with cats, living with one in foster care.

Buddy sits on command and walks well on a harness. He has a good recall which we've been working on to improve while in care, his new family will be able to keep working on this for a great solid recall. He loves to run and he's only the second of our fosters to enjoy jumping up onto our trampoline! Although an energetic boy, he can also relax, especially if he can curl up with you on the sofa or in bed! He came to us jumping up on people and we have been able to discourage him from doing this but recommend that he be re-homed with older (school age) children who are happy to tell him off if he jumps on them. All in all a very easy and loving boy to live with. He's a wonderful companion dog and will do best in a home with constant human or canine company.

Buddy is an extremely loving dog and wants to be with you as often as he can. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Buddy sleeps indoors but is an outdoor dog when you go out.

Buddy needs to be walked at least once a day as well as having play time with his family. He needs to be included in the family’s daily routine and not left outside on his own. He loves to socialise with other dogs and people.

Mad Max needs to have lots of play time with his family. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Buster

photo of Buster width=

*** Buster is going on trial *** Buster is a lovely 9 year old yellow boy. He is a bit of a fatty. He loves a walk, and walks well on a lead. At the dog park, he socialises really well with dogs and people and young kids of all shapes and sizes. HE LOVES FOOD, FOOD, FOOD...and will do anything for a treat.

He is very good with my dog, Jack. He is not an alpha male. I’ve been giving them bones, and they both end up wanting the same one, and they actually play a game, where they gently try and take it from the other one, while it’s still in the other dogs mouth, and they do this back and forth everyday, and neither of them has ever as much as even snarled at each other. He knows sit and outside. He goes CRAZY with excitement when you pick up the lead. His fat tummy means that he tries to get himself into the boot of the car on his own, and he really wants to do it all by himself, but you have to give him a bit of a lift up. He is great in the car, and happily sits or lies down in the boot. He has not been any trouble, except for the day my son left the gate open for a minute, and he just ran down the road, going off for his own walk. It was scary because we have a four lane busy road at the end of our street, but we managed to coax him back with FOOD. I have bathed him with the hose, and he did amazingly well and just stood there.

He is great with my kids, who are aged 8 and 11. We have their friends over all the time, and it seems like he really wants to be with them. He loves a soccer ball, and has chewed one or two. He’ll carry them around in his mouth. He has healed well after the desexing.

Over all you couldn’t get a happier, more placid, love to just lie on the deck or play with the kids kind of dog.

Buster needs to be walked regularly (once a day) as well as having play time with his family. He is happy to be with his family doing anything they choose, be it out walking, playing with him or just relaxing watching TV. Buster needs to be included in your daily routine and not left outside on his own. Buster loves to socialise with other dogs and people. *** Abbey is going on trial *** Abbey is a small built 4 year old lab cross girl. She is very sweet and gentle in nature and just a joy to be around. She has grown up with kids from teenagers to a 5 year old disabled boy. The whole family was devastated to have to give her up but unfortunately without fences, they were unable to keep her. She missed her family to begin with but has happily found her spot on the lounge for cuddles.

Abbey is great with gentle dogs but because of her gentle nature can be easily intimidated by boisterous dogs. She has wonderful meal time manners and will wait to be told to eat.
